Rational or Rationalizing
Everyone wants to be a rational decision maker. The problem is, when we have a subtle agenda, we can shift from being rational to rationalizing a slightly different outcome to achieve that agenda. This can happen as preserving the hero status becomes a priority over doing what is right. It’s a subtle temptation and can be easily rationalized as the team banters over options. But, when hero sentiment enters the decisions making process, “necessary” compromise will cause a team to settle for less than best because best is no longer best without the hero status.
