Army of The Willing

Team building is very difficult and time-consuming. A common practice in team building is advertising to a mass audience the need for people to sign up for something specific. This method has a time and place when the need is for a lot of bodies joining a team quickly. However, this method will not pay off in the long-term. The “army of the willing” is not always the army of the competent. Handpicking a great team through diligent recruitment allows for a team that is built to last. If willingness is the only standard for a teammate, then the team will struggle to develop over time because it will require a lot of training in a lot of areas.

  1. As a PK I have seen too many armies of the willing and not enough armies of competence! That is a brilliant way of putting it.
