The Teamwork Tradeoff
What are my expectations when I join a team? Do I expect to lead it? Do I believe the team needs me more than I need the team? Do I believe that my ways are better than the team’s ways and that they are lucky I chose them? It’s easy to say that none of those are true. However, the purity of our motives and attitudes as teammates are found in our response to the need to compromise, share, learn, and cooperate in a situation where we feel we can handle things on our own. We cannot be a great teammate until we are willing to trade some independence for a dependence that leads to a better result for the team.
